HIKING LE MORNE BRABANT - THE MEMORIAL CROSS SUMMIT

Situated at the extreme southwestern tip of Mauritius, participants will take the same route followed by the runaway slaves who were on the quest for freedom. The hike up to the memorial cross summit is not physically demanding although part of the trail is exposed to the sun (sunscreen SPF 40+ is recommended). The hike also includes a total of 4 rock-scrambling areas which can be tackled by both beginner and expert hikers with great precautions. You will also spot “Boucle d’Oreille” commonly known as Trochetia Boutoniana, the endemic national flower of Mauritius. Our experienced mountaineers will be happy to give you more information about the surroundings of the mountain.
Le Morne Brabant was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in July 2008 to memorialize the runaway slaves who preferred to commit suicide by jumping off the cliff rather than being captured and enslaved again.
